Gentilli discovers the Trestles of Vancouver island
Working on some new pieces for my next exhibition of my imaginary photographic art which will come out of a trip to Vancouver, Canada. I rather fell in love with the pioneering railway spirit and especially the trestles that the trains used to cross the valleys that rather predominate Vancouver island. These extraordinary bridges , all man made are structures that i am looking forward to working on as part of a new series of images all about this theme of travel, pioneering and the man made built environment. Wood wood wood!
Wimbledon Art Studios Open show
Had loads of wonderful visitors and some great comments about the work i have done recently especially my “next door garages” which has had some great feedback and a surprising number of people know that this is from the Elephant and Castle. Thanks to all of you that made the effort to trapse round and any comments feel free to post them!
next door’s garage, new art by Gentilli
the garages in this Hayward Estate and their graffiti were just too good to miss. The estate is in Elephant and Castle, London and i have done a photography essay on the graffiti all over the estate. Some great expression and wonderful muted colours on this autumn day. the collage work took me several weeks and the final artwork that is over 2m long looks fantastic on wall in studio 262 at theWimbledon art studios open days that are happening this week. Come check them out all the way through to Sunday 25th November. I am showing there and looking forward to seeing you!
Nicholas Gentilli next artwork on Spanish metal caps for wimbledon art studios open
After a brief trip to Spain to gather material for my next artworks that i am hoping to show at Wimbledon Art Studios in November – i have come back armed with new material.
After 2 days in Toledo staring at the floor and roads, I became besotted with the different types of metalwork in the street. All the utility companies have been securing their holes in teh ground for what looks like ages with fantastic patina and array of metal plates.
have a look at one iof them here I hope to create a tableau with these metal plates that will be full of tone colour and texture. Keep your eyes peeled as they say ….

This is my most recent artwork. Just up in time for my Open studio at wimbledon art studios which is on now today 10 May.
It started in Margate when I went to see the Turner gallery newly opened and I was struck by these footprints in the sand. By repeating them i have created a walkway through the landscape and the footprints go in no particular direction. Sometimes elevated and sometimes raised in relief and there are even some really natural prints as well. The sand echoes and repeats in a myriad of colours. This latest imaginary artwork is special as it moves away from the beach – that quintessential British thing and becomes a journey into the mysterious. I guess for me the architecture is in the footprints. The mystery in wondering whose they are and where they are going!
